Playstation Pro: 4K but is it worth the upgrade?
Games are getting more and more advanced and power hungry and so are needing better, more powerful consoles. Both Microsoft and Sony have recently entered the next generation of gaming with Xbox One S and the Playstation 4 Pro which is the Ultra HD; in other words 4k gaming.
Let’s take a look at the PlayStation 4 Pro!
First of all when we unbound our unit there were lots and lots of boxes, not that we didn’t like it but, you know! It only fuels curiosity.
Let’s list out the contents of this new console.
- – Boxes
- – A little larger power cable than before
- – One controller (same old same old)
- – USB charging cable
- – Normal useless headphone
- – Playstation Pro 4
With that out of the way let’s take a look at the build.
It looks pretty similar in make to that of the old one. Only that previously it had two stacks and now it has 3. To be very honest it doesn’t make that big a difference.
It still has the matt finish which makes it very easy to hold as well. Just like before!
It has 3 USB ports for charging and media docking. 2 in front as before and one at the back. It also has one HDMI port, ethernet port and the charging plug. An eject and power button on the front.
Over all a very clean look but it is however, slightly longer than both Xbox One S and the Playstation 4, but has the same height and width.

Gaming in 4K:
Gaming in 4K looks amazing! The detail and speed that this console brings to the gaming is awesome. Textures and frame rates are super smooth and any sort of operational lag is nonexistent. However what sets it back is that you need to have a 4K display to enjoy all the visual treats. A 1080p display will only give you a 1080p output which is the same as the previous version. However you can still take advantage of speeds and no lagging.
One thing to consider is that it doesn’t support 4k BluRay discs!
We took a look at Rise of the Tomb Raider and we were stunned with beautiful detail and amazingly crisp graphics.
Is it worth an upgrade?
Now the million dollar question, if you have the older version should you upgrade it? Well that kind of depends how you want to look at this question. To enjoy the visual treats you will need a 4K display and if you don’t have one you sort of don’t really need to buy a new Playstation 4 Pro. You just simply can’t enjoy what it actually brings to the plate! But then again it just costs $400 and it does give a good speed and fast loading advantage so then why not?
In the end although it may not give you all the stunning visuals you need because you may not have that 4K display but still buying it may give you some future proof tech, and honestly it DOESN’T cost that much, so, GRAB IT!
